It worked as expected, so there must be an issue with my gentoo setup. Is there something obvious I'm missing here?ĮDIT: To become more familiar with the software, I fired up a VM and test drove the windows version. In terms of Java I'm running Oracle JDK 1.8.0.112. I can telnet to port 9001 when the service is running so something is listening there, but nothing comes up in the browser. Enabling everything in the logger doesn't seem to shed any light on things. I've tried changing a number of settings incl toggling the httpv2 engine, running as root in headless mode, and so on. but I can't bring up the default web interface at 9001.

I can bring up the interface, detect renderers, and access the admin interface on port :5001/console/home. Thanks for the ebuild and all of the other efforts- I was able to emerge version 6.7.3 and get it up and running. With the recent news about Plex changing their TOS, I've been looking at alternatives.

Something that Plex used to be many moons ago.Gentoo Forums :: View topic - Universal Media Server It's constantly getting updated and, best of all, it's free. I know I sound like some Emby sleeper agent or something, but it just comes from years of frustration dealing with a laundry list of media servers, centers, programs, and applications, and after all this time, it's nice to finally have one that just works. It only takes a few clicks and he's watching my TV channels and I don't even notice. Hell, I can even stream LiveTV to my friends house just by setting up a guest account and sharing out the IP. Anything from my HTPC to my Nexus Player, it plays perfectly every time. But the real beauty about Emby is its ubiquity across all devices. It took, I dunno, maybe 15 minutes to have everything completely set up the way I wanted it to. It worked, perfectly, right out of the box. As I said above, I've had zero problems with Emby. Since then, I've completely dumped it and now use Kodi (XBMC) and, recently, started dabbling in Emby. It's slow and cumbersome, setting up new devices and servers are a pain in the ass, and it seems like since its inception, they've just been going backwards. I bought their apps and had it running on everything I owned, but about a year or so ago, I just got fed up with it. They were one of the first to transcode content on the server side before pushing it to the client instead of just pushing the entire file. I've been with Plex since 2010, a little bit after they forked from XBMC, since they were (at the time) the only ones who could stream HD content over a network.

I know it's to each their own, but I've never had a problem with Emby (aka Media Browser).
